Reflecting on nature and reflecting in nature

Reflecting on nature and reflecting in nature

My photography reflects a lifetime of learning about images, color, light and shadow, and textures.  I have been variously a teacher, a school district administrator, a high school principal, and a volunteer in numerous non-profits.  But my real passion has been photography, such to the point that now I cannot see the world around me and the interactions I have with people, places, and animals without seeing them through my internal lenses.  To me, the world is growing to be a more beautiful place even though on the surface some of the real ugliness comes through.  When I take a photograph, I try to capture that beauty as though I were a painter.  In some sense, I find the world and nature as a canvas upon which I hope to recreate my vision.  My images are a humble way of paying respect to that vision.

There is another passion that contributes to the breadth of my photography.  that is my long-held love for travel.  i am not a wanderlust, as i need to have home roots.  but my desire is to see as much of the world as i can -- especially the different, unique, exotic, and intriguing landscapes, people, and cultures that are spread across mother earth.  i have lived in west africa as a peace corps volunteer, been a principal of a secondary school in the middle east, bicycled through europe, spent a full year on leave from my job to travel around the world from east to west, and spent additional time in europe, the russian far east, ALMOST ALL OF AFRICA , turkey, many asian countries, parts of the caribbean, central and south america, the indian subcontinent, canada and mexico, and, of course, most of the u.s. (including 34 years living in alaska).  so, i have had a world of opportunities to engage my photographic vision.  i have dedicated SEVERAL chapterS of this website to featured countrIES wherein i have included some of my work from these travels.  this gallery will change over time.

"enjoy life" is my abiding mantra.  i hope it will be yours.
